Austria's new Islam Law as a model for the regulation of the relationship between European secular society and Muslim communities?

Abstract

The new Austrian Islam Law which was adopted in 2015 is only partially focused on issues related to the profession of religion, a substantial part of the law deals with general problems concerning the integration of Muslims into Austrian society. In this paper, we examine whether the new law can successfully meet these goals and may serve as a model to other European countries.

The article presents the new law in its historical context, analyzes its key provisions and highlights the practical difficulties in applying the law.
