Abstract
The paper deals with the issue of Geography Olympiad as seen by geographical didactics. Firstly, the current state of the Olympiad is described.
Secondly, basic features of this type of school contest at the general level are discussed. These features are subsequently used for an analysis and assessment of the current state of Geography Olympiad in Czechia in terms of the needs of geographical education and geography as a field of study in general.
Based on the stated criteria, the author concludes that the current Geography Olympiad is a quality school competition and also identifies its certain aspects suitable for further development.
