The Waldstein Family as a Court Dynasty. The Social Reproduction at Imperial Court in 17th Century

Abstract

The membres of the family Waldstein held the high positions at the court in Vienna during the 17th century in four generations. Adam the Younger of Waldstein stand at the beginning of the successful system, which combinated the social potential of the respected noble dynasty and the economic base.

Adam provided careers for his sons, they held the positions both in Prague (in Bohemian land offices) and in Vienna (at the Habsburg court). Similar to Adam, his son Maximilian and his grandson Karl Ferdinand used the same strategy.

By this way the Waldsteins belonged to the most important families in the Habsburg monarchy until the beginning of the 18th century and they influenced not only the court life but also the politics.
