Abstract
Trichophyton tonsurans is in anthropophilic dermatophyte with worldwide distribution. Whereas it is a leading cause of tinea capitis in the North America, infections with Trichophyton tonsurans appear relatively rarely on the European continent.
Although Trichophyton tonsurans is primarily associated with tinea capitis, it can also cause tinea corporis, especially among sportsmen. The authors describe the case of a 40-year old patient with an atypically extensive clinical picture caused by Trichophyton tonsurans infection.
Therapy with terbinafin in dose of 250 mg/day perorally for three weeks and with topical antimycotics for 6 weeks cured the lesions.
