Abstract
Basic informations about poisonous animals and biotoxins are presented in this contribution. Some animals can produce poison in special venom glands and accessory structures.
Another animals have poison in their body due to long-term food consummation of toxic substances. Many venom vertebrates belong to cartilaginous fishes, fishes, amphibians and reptiles, especially snakes.
Poisonous birds and mammals are very rare.
