Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy

Abstract

Surgical treatment of localised prostate carcinoma is radical prostatectomy. Indication iplies men with life expectancy more than 10 years.

With the development of new technologies of less invasive procedures and quality of imaging laparoscopic radical prostatectomy became one of standards of surgical treatment. Transperitoneal and extraperitoneal (endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy - EERP) approach is possible.

The advantage of this procedure is better visualisation of anatomic structures, bleeding control, oncological safety and potential to spare neurovascular bundles with regard of preservation urine continence and erectile function. EERP is safe method with low frequency of complications.

In Department of Urology of General Hospital and the 1-st Faculty of Medicine in Prague it is the most frequent laparoscopic procedure.
