Unwanted effects of a corticosteroids therapy focused on impact on the glucose metabolism

Abstract

The patogenetic mechanism influencing the glucose metabolism during the corticosteroid treament at the celular level has not been completely explained yet and there exist different theories explaining this unwanted metabolic effect. Based on available information, the paper analyses possible mechanism of hyperglycemia induced by the corticosteroid treatment as well as the effect of the corticosteroid treatment on other body system.
