Abstract

The chapter deals with the oldest European references related to coffee, tea, and chocolate. Within this framework it focuses mainly on transcultural aspects of their reception in European culture.

While chocolate and tea are connected to European perception of wealth, the coffee is linked to discussions about sexuality.
