Radiotherapy in non-small-cell lung cancer 2016

Abstract

Radiotherapy is an important part of therapy in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) of any stage. It is used as radical radiotherapy for locally advanced NSCLC (often in combination with chemotherapy), radical radiotherapy for early NSCLC (if surgery is contraindicated), postoperative or preoperative radiotherapy in selected patients undergoing surgery, radiotherapy for limited tumour recidives or metastases, and palliative radiotherapy in patients with incurable NSCLC.

Outcomes of radiotherapy has been considerably improved using modern technologies and radiation techniques (intensity modulated radiation therapy, image guided radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy).
