Anthropocene: Finally the end of climatic determinism?

2016

Abstract

Ideological concept of the Anthropocene began to develop in geological circles after 2000, but its impact was much broader soon. Anthropocene has been defined as such a period of global ecosystem development in which the impact of human activity is comparable to natural processes.

Its onset is most often put into the Great Acceleration event after 1945. From this point in time, unprecedented anthropogenic influences may be followed on all spatial scales from planetary to local. "Anthropocene discourse" becomes very influential because it allows to overcome the existing paradigms based on a sharp dichotomy between nature and culture (civilization).
