Indian in Franciscan Chronicle: Forming the Colonial Stereotype in Early Modern Brazil

Abstract

This chapter concerns formation and stereotypization of image of the "indian" in available Franciscan chronicles of Early Modern Brazil, especially in contrast with more thoroughly studied Jesuit sources and Jesuit stereotypes of the so-called indians.
