Abstract
The presentation will elaborate on the relationship between the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (hereinafter also "the CPT") and the European Court of Human Rights (hereinafter "the ECtHR"). The author will primarily focus on the references to the CPT in the judgments and decisions of the ECtHR, specifically on how often the ECtHR quotes the visit reports from the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, in what context and in relation to which Member States of the Council of Europe.
A key research question is whether the activities of the CPT has an impact on the decision-making practice of the ECtHR.
