Abstract

Eating disorders represent a group of illnesses characterized by maladaptive behavior in a biopsychosocial context. As the most common disorder from this group is considered to be binge eating.

The relationship between binge eating and obesity, epidemically spreading lifestyle disease, causes general interest of professional and general public. We can find Binge Eating diagnosis in the appendix of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision and after changes in diagnostic criteria in the main text of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition.

The options of treatment of binge eating are limited. Nowadays, the pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and self-help therapy is used.

Patients are treated during hospitalization or outpatient care. The episodes of binge eating are preceded by feeling of craving.

High-frequency repetitive magnetic stimulation has a potential to activate cortex under the coil, to inhibit neuronal activity in distant cortex and to reduce craving. The method of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is opening the doors of biological treatment in Binge Eating Disorder.
