Abstract

In this article I am describing research in Moroccan village Taghazout, where I was observing causes and consequences of important changes of the last few years; fisherman village not very much influenced by tourism was transformed into popular destination for surfers from all around the world and base for foreign investors, which completely changed the character of the place. A large part of these surfers are so-called lifestyle migrants, who settle permanently in Taghazout and creates here an international community - they are mainly British, Dutch, German, French and Spanish.

I will focus first on surfing as the cause of these changes and main motivation of lifestyle migration; I describe it in terms of history, subculture and lifestyle sports. Then I focus on lifestyle migration and sport tourism, which are closely interrelated topics and in the description of the lifestyle migrants who are surfers, I specifically focus on their psychology and motivation.

Finally, I mention my own, multilayered position in the field and changes, which occurred in Taghazout along with lifestyle migration.
