Teacher education and its quality evaluation in Belgium

Abstract

This publication deals with the topic of teacher education and covers an evaluation of its quality in Francophone part of Belgium, with the emphasis put on primary school teacher education. Character, strengths and weaknesses of the current state of education and perspectives of its development are considered in following contexts: (a) the context of a theoretical and research-based elaboration of the quality of teachers and their undergraduate education, (b) in the context of the current reform of a higher education and teacher education, and (c) in the context of processes related to the evaluation and self-evaluation with the emphasis put on formative evaluation of the teacher education study programs in the Francophone part of Belgium.

In the conclusion, topics for further discussion related to the improvement of the system of teacher education, mainly of Czech primary school teachers, are identified. The topic was developed utilising current foreign theoretical and research resources, observation, and dialogs in teaching practice as well as upon a direct experience of the author in the presented evaluation processes.
