Diabetic foot

Abstract

Diabetic foot affects about 6% of patients with diabetes mellitus and is one of the most common causes of hospitalization diabetics (reported as the major cause of hospitalization of diabetics until ca 50%). Approximately 70% of non-traumatic lower limb amputations are performed on diabetic patients.

In 85% of the preceding amputations of lower limbs in diabetic ulcers, which are potentially treatable. Modern multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome associated with a consistent prevention and education can reduce the number of amputations by 70%.
