Vectors of Cultural Development: Identity, Utopia, Heroes

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

This monograph is one of the key outcomes of the interdisciplinary research project "Literature and Art in Intercultural Communication", realised by twelve departments of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in the framework of the Research Areas Development Programme at Charles University (PRVOUK 09). It is primarily focused on Central Europe and Anglophone countries where the tradition of multicultural development and its reflection has deep roots and a long history.

The title "Vectors" of Cultural Development points not only to the seminal importance of notions such as "identity", "utopia", and "hero" for the creation of Euroatlantic cultural space, but also to their influence on our understanding of and reflection on development tendencies (in literature, theatre, film, "mainstream" pop culture, individual works, genres, and cultural institutions) which have been taking part in the formation, unification, and division of this space from the Antiquity up to the present.
