Abstract
The article summarizes basic facts about female sexual functions. It provides an overview of pathophysiological mechanisms of female sexual response and a description of female sexual behavior models.
Female sexual functions are characterized according to its phenomenology and symptomological classification is presented. It informs about prevalence of sexual problems in the female population and provides overview of their most common etiology.
The paper compares three current international classification systems, critically evaluates its inadequate compatibility, provides comparative overview of currently used classifications and recommendation for clinical practice.
