Pharmacogenetics in practice of a clinical pharmacologist and a pharmacist

Abstract

Pharmacogenetics is the field that studies the impact of the genetic variability of a patient on the effectiveness and side effects of pharmacotherapy. This field is the basis for personalized medicine.

Genotyping of patients may determine the choice and dosage of a drug with respect to the prevention of toxicity and prediction of pharmacotherapeutic effect. The aim of this article is to describe the importance of pharmacogenetics in the practice of a pharmacist-managed clinical service.
