PRECONCEPTS OF SIGNATURE IN PRESCHOOL AGE

Abstract

The main topic of the present study is the problem of writing own name by children in preschool age. The research observed 139 children at the age of 3 to 6.

All the children were writing and then reading (analysing) their own name, smaller groups were writing and thinking up words starting with letters included in their name, they were writing words dog, elephant, house and backward reading written words and seeking their inner structures, seeking their name in a sentence among other words, comparing congruence of writing, and so on. Children's products and also their ways of writing and reading were elaborated with the help of open coding.

The results are recorded preconcepts of writing and reading of own name that is interpreted developmentally in the study within the frames of Emilia Ferreiro's psychogenetic theory.
