How Czech Women and Men Spend Their Time What That Says about Czech Society

Abstract

This article examines differences in the ways men and women in Czechia spend their time during various phases of the life cycle. It suggests the possible applications of this topic in geography instruction.

Generally, women devote more time to housework and child rearing. On the contrary, men spend more time carrying out paid work and in leisure activities.

The largest changes in time use and the greatest gender differences are connected to the presence of very small children in households. Despite changes in how time is spent in society since the 1960s, women's activities continue to be more related to the home, while men tend to spend more time in public space.
