The research spectrum of contemporary ethnomusicology: the ethnomusicologists road to the town

Abstract

The text aims to introduce urban ethnomusicology, an important direction in the contemporary anthropologically oriented research of music. Significant theoretical conceptions are described, especially the conception of soundscape (by Schafer and Shelemay), the Assmann's connective structure, and conceptions of collective memory.

The last section of the article introducess applications of the above-mentioned concepts on materials from Prague.
