Abstract
In this article, we show one old mathematical problem - the legitimate division of heritage according the last will of deceased people and according traditional con-temporary civic laws or habits and according canonical laws. We explain mathematical methods helped its solving.
We will describe the situation in Roman Empire (the 2nd century A. D.), European Middle Ages (the 8th century), Arabic cultural world (the 9th century) and Czech lands (the 16th century).
