The book offers a coherent analysis of Czech mdeical drama television programs. The approach focuses on comparative analysis of the original series, produced under the era of normalization (1970s, 1980s), and the new series, created in the post-communist era.
Contextualizing the similarities and differences of both types, the book attempts to draw some abstractions of the ideological discourse of both eras. The analysis of the TV serials focuses manily on the notions of illness, medical treatment, heroism and collective identities; such notions are interpreted both in their literal and figurative significance.
