On interpretation, definition and terminological description of word-formation means of transitional character

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

The paper discusses status of word formation means such as root-morphemes, affixes and morphemes of transitional character, so-called affixoids, quasi-morphemes, etc. The paper will begin with a brief overview of their linguistic interpretation and definitions in Czech and Slovak theory.

Then some aspects of analyse and terminology of compound-words and quasi-compounds will be pointed out and illustrated. The transitional character of these means is reflected in non-uniform linguistic terminology in Slavic languages as well as in practical lexicographic presentation and explication of these means.

It is desirable to elaborate adequate and homogeneous terminology, for both word-formation theory and word-formation types which have growing potential. Those word-formation types are connected with the process of internationalization of modern languages.
