Abstract
The report summaries the 8th international symposium on Czech abroad, which took place from 16 - 20 August 2016 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the rector of Charles University Tomáš Zima. It was held in the framework of the official celebration of the 700th anniversary of birth of Charles IV. The programme of the symposium focused on five main themes:
1. The period of Charles IV and Czech;
2. Linguistic and linguistic-didactic description of Czech for foreigners;
3. Experience of teaching Czech for foreigners;
4. The importance of the Czech state support to Czech studies abroad;
5. Summer school of Slavic studies and its importance for the dissemination of knowledge of Czech language and culture abroad. About 50 participants - linguists, Czech scholars, and teachers of Czech - from 13 countries around the world participated in the symposium.
