Abstract

Varicella still represents a very common infectious disease in the Czech Republic. Usually, its course is mild but severe course with complications is also not exceptional, especially in at-risk individuals.

Given the high prevalence of varicella-zoster infection in the general population, herpse zosterb is often seen as a manifestation of latent infection reactivation. Since vaccination against varicella is not widespread in the Czech Republic, we can reduce the incidence of both diseases caused by this virus using an appropriate combination of effective approaches (vaccination, passive immunization, and antiviral treatment), this protecting especially individuals at high risk.
