Abstract

Aprotinin belongs to the family of serpins, it is a competitive inhibitor of non-specific serine proteases enzymes hydrolysing a peptide bond between the serine and other amino acids on the protein molecule. By binding them inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasmin (acts as an antifibrinolytic) in a higher concentration and kallikrein (and thus the formation of factor XIIa, thereby extending the intrinsic coagulation cascade; activity of aprotinin is given in the so-called.

Kallikrein inhibitory units - KIU), elastase, cathepsin , activated protein C or thrombin others. In medicine, aprotinin is used since 1953 as a trypsin inhibitor in the treatment of pancreatitis autodigestivní to limit the damage.
