The way to depths of chemistry education - seminar for high school chemistry teachers and their students
Abstract
hInterconnectivity of studied topics with everyday life is a present trend in not only natural sciences didactics. This trend is present even in post high-school education where emphasis is in connecting universities between themselves and others scientific institutions but mainly with industrial partners.
These trends in different chemical fields were presented by members of 6 departments of chemical section of Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague during seminar called Journey into the depths of chemistry. Meeting with high school teachers and pupils was realized in October 2015 in the building of chemical section.
Departmental heads presented their teams and topics of their research. Afterwards teachers took part in presentation of actual topics from all fields of chemistry.
Pupils completed practical experiments in all departments. This way even the pupils were presented with actual research topics but in different form than their teachers.
We believe that this seminar contributed and helped the teachers to bring their chemistry lessons closer to everyday lifes of their pupils and we re going to meet them and their students in future meetings of Journey into the depths of chemistry.
