Czech Deminutives and the Difficulties of their Use for the Non-native Speakers

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

The text presents an analysis of the diminutives with regard to the problems of their use by the non-native speakers, resp. by Polish native speakers. The reason of this specific comparison is the formal and semantic closeness of the two languages that is the source of a negative transfer.

The analysis is based on the comparison of parallel Czech and Polish texts included in the parallel corpus InterCorp and further it is supported by the elicitation of the use of selected lexemes by Polish students.
