Use of video in courses of didactics of biology at Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague

Abstract

Video is an important tool in developing pedagogical content knowledge of prospective teacher and his ability to notice different aspects of teaching. Noticing them is prerequisite for suitable teacher reaction on situations in classroom and for solving them.

It is necessary to develop these skills already during undergraduate education of biology teachers. Video is used in courses of didactics of biology at Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague, to support students' activities in following ways: writing free reflections, discussion, analysis of teaching unit combined with filling out a worksheet, evaluation of teaching unit combined with filling out an evaluation form and discussion, analysis using the method 3A.

Further video is used to present different teaching methods to students, e.g. CLIL method.

Students evaluated use of video through short questionnaire. They consider it beneficial and motivating and they suggest themselves another activities they would like to do in courses of didactics of biology.
