Abstract
Review of the novel "Berlin liegt im Osten" (2013, Berlin is in the East) by Nellja Veremej, a Russian-born German author, about Lena, who has been lived in Berlin for several years. She works as a carer for elderly people and through hearing their stories learns of the sufferings endured in the war years.
The book was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize, given to a work whose author's mother tongue is not German, in 2013.
