Professional competencies of nursery school teachers

Abstract

This article reports on a research study entitled Education of nursery school teachers. Pilot study aims at processing of four case studies of starting nursery school teachers with different qualifications.

Pilot study helped validate the functionality of the questionnaires. Research part is based on a survery among teachers in nursery schools (96 respondents) and interviews with seven experts on preschool education.

The survey was comparing how teachers assess the importance of professional competence and adequacy of their development in the initial training, depending on their level of education. Using structured interviews were surveyed views on the current training kindergarten teachers.

The questionnaire survey showed that respondents perceive the used set of competencies to be very important, because their assessment of the significance of individual competence was high. Results of interviews with experts showed that there is a consensus in disagreement with three ways of an education system, but opinions diverge on the changes.
