Comparative study of Czech and Japanese in respect to iconicity: On Czech Adjective+Noun structure

Publication at Central Library of Charles University |
2016

Abstract

The article compares formal and semantic qualities of Czech adjective-noun structure and its Japanese counterparts. Based on corpora analysis, structural difference in variety of forms available in both languages is pointed out and interpreted using Langacker's Usage based model (1999) presenting a challenge to Haiman's (1983) claim that degree of iconicity correlates with the degree of gramaticalization.e
