Spiroergometry - important method for health assesment

Abstract

Spiroergometry is a method, which enables exact classification of cardio-respiratory capacity level of the subject. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max a VO2max/kg) is the value, which has not only dirext relation to the athlete's performance in many athletic disciplines based on endurance and/or condition component, but which also plays important role in the prevention and treatment of many pathologic states.

Major concern in many countrie is the repid increase of the population of old and very old population. Elderly very often spend 10 years of life with some form of chronic disability and are almost totally dependent on the assistence of around.

However, regular endurance exercise could reduce the biological age of active individuals by 10 to 20 years with a correspondingly decreased likelyhood of becoming dependent when a senior. Regular exercise offters enormous improvement in the duality of the final years of life.

Knowledge of individual VO2max and/or VO2peak may be helpful to reach this goal.
