Linguistic Representations of the Metaphor LIFE IS A JOURNEY in Czech (Based on Memoirs)

Abstract

The Image Schema JOURNEY is a source domain of selected conceptual metaphors. The lecture shows that the conceptual metaphor LIFE IS A JOURNEY is the most typical one.

The survey is based on methods that can help to find linguistic representations of this metaphor and also other metaphors with the source domain JOURNEY. The source of the language data are texts that the theme of life, career etc. is typical of, such as memoirs and interviews.
