Abstract
John of Görlitz (1370-1396) was the youngest son of Charles IV. His father created for him a rather special unit within the Lands of the Bohemian Crown.
It consisted of the eastern part of Upper Lusatia (with the centre in Görlitz), Lower Lusatia and the so called Neumark of Brandenburg. The book, relying partly on older historiography, but above all on the analysis of sources (bills, charters) presents in the first part the life of the young duke, during which he often stayed at the court of his brother Wenceslas IV. in Bohemia.
In the next section of the book we present the composition and functioning of the court of John of Görlitz and his office, which created Duke's charters. Afterwards is described the itinerary of John of Görlitz and the role of Görlitz as a communication center during his reign.
The last chapter deals with the tradition of this duke and of his government, as presented historiography of following centuries. The book includes two appendices: catalogue of charters issued by the duke and his itinerary, many maps and pictures.
