Abstrakt
Focusing on the emergence of Turkish Studies in the late 19th and early 20th century, the chapter shows how the first Czech scholars dealing with Turkish literature and history both distinguished themselves from the stereotypes prevailing in Czech society and were affected by the ways in which the Turks were viewed at the time.
