Publication at Faculty of Education |
2016

Abstract

The opening chapter of collective monograph, which is focused on the second phase of the research project GACR Reading comprehension - a typical development and its risks, summarizes the most important results of the first phase of research targeted at typically developing children of primary school age (first to fourth grade). The research investigated the development of reading skills in both teaching methods of reading and the identification of characteristics of development.

It also explored the level of decoding and reading comprehension skills, and monitored the relations between reading comprehension and decoding as well as precursors of reading comprehension. The research did not omit to analyse the environmental and personal aspects.

The chapter also reminds the methodology of the research - diagnostic tools designed by research team and selected standardized tools. The chapter allows the reader to perceive the project in context, as it was planned and implemented, in the framework of the Simple view of reading (Gough & Turmer, 1986).
