Abstract

The EU aims as part of its European Neighbourhood Policy to strengthen democratization and stability in the region. The paper explores the current state of democracy and political stability in the countries of the European Neighbourhood and attempts to assess the possible implications for the EU and its potential to contribute to strengthening democracy and to stabilize the entire region.

This article aims to analyze the current state of democracy and stability in the European Neighbourhood region through selected aggregated indices and to assess options for further action by the European neighborhood policy in this area. The aim is to answer the question, what is the development of democracy in its neighborhood, how ist this region stable and in what manner and to what extent this development might be affected by the Union's neighborhood policy.
