"Citrus" culture in the royal court of Ferdinand I and Anne Jagiello. Import and cultivation of citrus fruits in Prague 1526-1564

Abstract

This study analyzes previously unknown sources, proving importation of citrus to Prague and their cultivation in the 16th century. Ferdinand I. laid the foundations of the Habsburg monarchy and its administrativ infrastructure and simultaneously he encouraged the creation of economic and cultural networks, and thus significantly influenced the development of transport luxury goods.

It is also related to citrus and other fruits, which are to Prague imported mainly from Tyrol. This import has initiated especially Anne Jagiello, wife of the ruler.

The frequency of deliveries to Prague and Vienna and quantity of the goods documented high political, cultural and living standards of the Habsburg court.
