This book deals with old age and the process of aging from the functional, psychosocial and educational viewpoint. It offers an interdisciplinary approach to the topic and draws on research carried out by the author and on a comparison of selected demographic, economic, andragogical, social and biological indicators.
In today's society, old age belongs among the current political topics in its selective form. Social and humanistic sciences have on their own started to react to the needs of society and individuals and they elaborate on this problematic in an exact and systematic way, this including the traditional concept of institutional (informal) education of seniors as well as the modern trends based on the holistic approach to a human being, philosophical enquiry and its place in society with dominant topics such as solidarity, quality of life and dignified old age.
Andragogy sees as crucial primarily the viewpoint of education theory and practice with an emphasis on educational, and social and counselling perspective.
