This paper presents a set of methods for investigation of the interaction between double-stranded DNA and 4-nitrobiphenyl and of DNA damage caused by this interaction. For this purpose, differential pulse, cyclic, and alternating current voltammetry, and chronocoulometry at a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) or DNA modified HMDE were employed.

The interaction of DNA with reduction intermediates of 4-nitrobiphenyl was studied, too. The mechanism of the electrochemical reduction of 4-nitrobiphenyl was investigated using cyclic voltammetry.

Moreover, the values of the standard rate constant of the reduction of 4-nitrobiphenyl and the diffusion coefficient were calculated.
