Abstrakt
The article covers the search for a definition of "Byzantine philosophy." It brings up issues such as the legitimacy of the existence and use of this term; it performs the separation between the concepts of "Byzantine philosophy" and "philosophy in Byzantium". It also considers the definition of the philosophy used by Byzantine authors, the possibility of separation of philosophy from theology, philosophia theologiae ancilla.
It deals with the question of influence of Aristotelian and Platonic philosophy on the development in the Byzantine Empire.
