Voices & Places : Space, Place, and Geography in World Poetry

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

In recent years, the issue of place has been attracting notable attention from theoreticians across various fields, ranging from philosophy to human geography. In the case of poetry, however, this interest remains limited.

Despite this, place is one of poetry's most important structural elements. Furthermore, the poem, within literature or literary culture, is one of the oldest and most enduring expressions of a relationship to a place.

The monography Voices & Places : Space, Place, and Geography in World Poetry contains 15 chapters by authors from Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and United States. The vast literary material covered in this book shows a number of distinctive aspects concerning modern poems of places.
