Abstract

The results of our study, which showed no significant increase in the risk of major birth defects after the statin exposure during first semester, are not satisfactory to support an idea, that statins could be used for the pre-eclamsia treatment. The use of statins in the prevention of pre-eclamsia needs prolonged use of the drugs during second and third semester.

This expossure was not tested, because exposure was limited on first semester, only. It may not cover the most sensitive period or duration of exposure is not sufficient to reveal toxic effect.
