Abstract

Last year, 145 years have past since Heinrich Schliemann started excavating on a site which we today commonly associate with the Homeric Troy, besung in the epic poems Iliad and Odyssey. Schliemann, however, was not the first one to excavate on the Hisarlik hill.

But did he actually discover Troy? The paper summarises the current state of knowledge on the topic.
