Abstract
André Breton is one of the most important French writer of 20th century. He was not only a great poet, but also an accurate literary theorist who founded very influential artistic movement, the Surrealism.
His famous book Les champs magnétiques (The magnetic fields), written with Philippe Soupault, lays the foundations of a very important surrealistic practice: "écriture automatique" ("automatic writing"). Thanks to this exercise of mind, Breton wanted to liberate our unconscious, but also the language, tied up by different kinds of rules.
