Abstract

The description of Common Czech (CC) used by various native speakers of Russian speaking Czech (NRSC) focused on the use of selected typical features of the CC, i.e. to the extent of the repertoire of Common Czech means of expression and their frequency and function in verbal expressions. The research includes both a description of the speech behavior of NRSC and two experiments in the form of audio tests of Common Czech.

For certain parts of the observed phenomena, we were able to compare their frequency with a frequency of standard forms (e.g. o- vs. vo-, -ý or -ý- vs -ej, respectively. -ej- in adjectival declination) and to try to uncover trends of their use. We examined only the speech production of NRSC.

On this basis we can describe, in accordance with previous surveys, what kind of Czech is commonly spoken by our respondents, and whether and how it oscillates between Standard Czech and Common Czech.
