Abstract

This publication describes the process of sampling and genetic testing for the purpose of genealogical studies, also known as genetic genealogy. Main chapters of this book contain information about laboratory sample processing and DNA storing, the connection of genetic variability and surnames, selected genetic markers (mitochondrial DNA and Y chromosomal markers), together with the interpretation of the results.

Furthermore, there are chapters concerning fields closely related to genetic genealogy (archaeogenetics, forensic genetics, and population genetics).
